Ben Nevis via the CMD East Ridge

The Carn Mor Dearg Arete is the best route up Ben Nevis, if you can handle it. This is a variation on the usual route by ascending the East Ridge of the Carn Mor Dearg arete approaching from the Aonach Mor side.

Ben Nevis via the CMD East Ridge Route Description

The route starts off at the Steall Falls car park and follows the good path along the Water of Nevis as far as the ruins at Steall. It becomes proper Munro walking after that as you strike off cross country, with a faint path if you’re lucky, up along the Allt Coire Giubhsachan and up to the head of the Coire Giubhsachan and the col between the CMD and Aonach Mor. There’s a final steep scramble to the summit of Carn Mor Dearg, where you can continue along the CMD Arete proper and onwards to Ben Nevis.

**Time is for one way only, and variable. Very fit walkers can walk up and down Ben Nevis in 4 hours and will know their own timings and speed. If in doubt, assume the longest duration for your ascent and add the longest for your descent, depending on route. Add a good half hour or more for the summit stop as well.
